The brief
Compliance paperwork is the beigest, most dreaded job in high-risk construction, and a Safe Work Method Statement still has to stand up to a principal contractor or a regulator. The brief we set ourselves: make the least glamorous document in the trade something a contractor actually wants to produce, without ever putting trust at risk.
The build
An 'Industrial Atelier' direction: hand-drawn graphite craft meeting real construction-site signage on warm paper, governed by a strict trust-tier rule, bold and kinetic on the marketing pages, premium but restrained in-app, and the SWMS document itself left clean and regulator-ready. The signature comes from the product's own truth. The brand mark is an approved SWMS sheet, and the whole experience is built around watching a document 'earn the tick': every control cited to the exact regulation, a transparent Pass / Warn / Blocker gate instead of a black-box score, and a human competent person who signs off before anything publishes.
What came out of it
- Live and shipped at swmsbuilder.au, a working product rather than a concept
- A signature born from the product: a SWMS that visibly earns a compliance tick, the way the studio's flask mark is 'the Lab'
- Every control cited to the regulation it comes from and dated, with a transparent Pass / Warn / Blocker gate and no inflated 'percent compliant' number
- Branded as the customer's on every plan, QR worker sign-on with a full audit trail, and live ABN verification against the Australian Business Register
- Built with a real NSW asbestos and demolition contractor as design partner
